Biography

I'm from England and have been a piano teacher for about 30 years now, mainly as a peripatetic teacher in schools (girls and boys aged from 4 to 13). Recently I've become interested in composing my own pieces for this age group.  Most of my music so far has been based on traditional folk or nursery songs. I try to make the settings enjoyable and often humourous, but at the same time slipping in the odd scale, arpeggio or chromatic pattern - in fact all the technical stuff that one might need in an practical exam.  I like to ensure that the left hand gets a really good share of the action.

Piano duets are another area which interests me greatly and I am trying my hand (or should that be both hands?) at this too. I've had problems finding exactly what I want in music shops, whether it be for myself or my young pupils, so I'm attempting to fill this gap.

I would say that my style is a mixture of classical and modal, but I often surprise myself by writing something dissonant and quirky!
